George Irvine was born in Oxford, England in 1972. Brought up and educated in the Midlands, he and his family have recently moved to Exmoor.
George uses the landscape and weather ‘happenings’ to celebrate our precious environment. Working on site in all weathers and seasons, he brings to his audience a unique vision with which he interprets a variety of locations, mostly in the United Kingdom. In the tradition of the Romantics, George brings a fresh eye to the recording of light, atmosphere and weather using his talent with colour.
He studied at The Slade School, UCL where we became friends and he has since been teaching teenagers and adults alike. This included 12 years full time at Stowe School when the Art Department was one of the trail blazers in Art Education. George often brought his students to visit my studio which was a delight and I could see he was an inspirational teacher.
He and his wife then started and ran Buttermilk Art School for 5 years. He runs courses today but prioritises working towards regular exhibitions and commissions. His exhibitions are always successful and he is collected both nationally and internationally.
